Toilday started off quietly. Tendriezil Frimbocket, his friends called him Ten-Frim, always looked forward to the workweek. He would arrive early and leave late every Toilday since there was so much to catch up on after Starday and Moonday and the festivities and religious ceremonies that filled those days. Ten-Frim was a well skilled carpenter, unmatched in his trade; at least in Heldren and probably all of Taldor in his mind. This morning he was intricately carving the “gingerbread” into two dozen arrow shafts that he had created for the local huntsman. A simple order, but as with every task, the gnome took it as a challenge and completed it with pride and expedience. As he finished the last shaft, he held it up to study the intricate carvings. He had designed this gingerbread to make an arrow fly further than normal. The huntsman had promised to report on how well they flew.

The front door opened, a series of bells and whistles and chimes alerted Ten-Frim to the Huntsman’s arrival. Elaborately decorated figures spun above the doors frame as if the opened door had triggered some giant clockwork display. Several figurines appeared as if they were in combat. The blue figures poured out a small hole above the doorway and chased those painted in red around the top of the door where they retreated into the wall. A final chime, sounding like icicles falling, completed the whole scene.

“Right on time, as I knew you would be Godric”, Ten-Frim remarked as the huntsman entered. “I just finished the last of them”. Ten-Frim hopped up on a short stool and stood over a normal sized workbench. He held up a wooden shaft and presented it to the Huntsman. His electric blue hair stood straight up upon his head; a similar small blue symbol carved into the shaft near the bottom, symbol of his craftsmanship.

“Good day Ten-Frim. I see you are every bit the craftsman Henril always said you were. Someday you will have to share your secret on how you get the shafts so straight. I had a productive hunt this morning. I was able to take down a deer and a turkey. I took the deer by the orphanage and thought you might like the turkey for your trouble. The constable wants me to go with him in the morning. Some trouble at one of the local farms. I should be able to report on the flight of your arrows in the afternoon.”

Ten-frim smiled a sly grin and waved his hand in the air, conjuring an array of dancing lights of brilliant colors and sounds. “I won’t be giving away any secrets today, huntsman. Maybe its my tiny gnomish eyes, or my birth-given gift of magic, or the years of toil and experimentation.” With another wave, the lights disappear from view.

Ten-frim takes a look at the turkey. “Although, you aren’t without talent yourself, my friend. That Turkey will make a wonderful meal. I accept your payment. Although, I still want you to report back to me your findings so I can make adjustments to the design in the future.” Ten-frim packed up the shafts, tying them carefully with string and presented them to Godric.

“One more thing, before you go”, the gnome added as the Huntsman turned to leave. “You will want equally crafted tips for those shafts if you want them to perform as expected. I told Iskar to prepare some for you. He will probably want a fair price, but I’m sure you can work something out.”

“Fair enough master Ten-Frim. I will head to Iskar straight away. I thank you again and shall report on the flight of these fine arrows.”

Heading out of the carpenter shop, Godric heads across town to the blacksmith, passing by a group of children taking down decorations off the statue at the town square. Presumably, cleaning up from the weekend festival marking the return of spring to helden. A red headed girl, recognizing Godric, hops off the base of the statue where she was removing flowers and runs up to him. Sara, as she is known, holds out a flower arrangement to Godric, holding it out as she looks up at him, beaming a smile. “For you Gov-Rick” she says in a young voice. Sara is one of the orphanage children taken care of by the temple.

“Why thank you Sara. I’m off to see Iskar at the moment. Perhaps if I finish in enough time I can stop by and tell you a bedtime story.Maybe even an adventure I had with Henril.” Godric heads off to the smithy with a smile. Thinking of how far he’s came since Henril took him in.

Xanth was working a blade on the anvil as Godric arrived. Her hammer landed solidly each time, shaping the metal beneath. She didn’t even notice him approach, and continued to work diligently on the blade with the hammer. [Xanthippe: Perception 6]

Some weapons and armor leaned against the side of the open blacksmith awning. The craftsmanship and quality was hard to deny. Each item, crafted with care and precision, rested carefully in it’s own place awaiting a home.

The heat and closeness was stifling to Godric. Sweat beading on his forehead in seconds. Looking on as Xanth works at her craft. He thinks to himself she is as hard as the metal being shaped. Feeling a little silly holding the [Godric: knowledge nature 13] … flowers given to him by Sara. Moving to Xanth’s eye line “excuse me Xanth.”

> knowledge nature reveals the flowers are called whit and smell lovely. They are not common to this area. Most likely imported for the festival

Xanthippe brought her hammer up, ready to bring it down onto the metal. Glancing up, she noticed a figure standing before her. Almost immediately she reflexes to throw the hammer at the figure who has greatly startled her but stops at the last moment.

“Erastil’s bow! I almost killed you Godric. Why on earth would you sneak up on me like that!” Xanthippe threw the anvil down into a bucket of water nearby. The anvil hisses like a snake as it settled inside. Xanth wiped her forehead with the back of her arm and came around to meet Godric, her demeanor changing to a friendly smile as she overcame the shock of his appearance. "What brings you by? ". She looked down at the flowers held in his hand. [xanthippe: perception 16]. She flashed him a wicked smile. “What’d you bring me?”

Godric begins to speak but stumbles on the first words as his face flushes red. Taking a step back to compose himself. " The whit was given to me by Sara. Master Ten- Frim sent me to get arrow heads that were of a quality fitting these shafts." Godric pulls one of Ten-Frims shafts from his quiver to show Xanth. " I was hoping you could help. I don’t have much coin. So i was hoping you may need some chores done in exchange."

“Iskar’s already got Hawk working on them for you. He’s probably already finished. Why don’t you step back into the workshed and see.”

Xanth called back after turning down the fire. “Hawk! Godric’s here for those arrowheads.” You can work out some payment with Hawk. I doubt he will take flowers though. With that, she opened a cabinet door and jostled around a few things, removing a small glass vase. After dusting it off and pouring in some fresh water she handed it to Godric. “You might want to put that witicalistra in here. It’s starting to wilt from all the heat. They are quite pretty; even if they are not for me.”

The blacksmith’s daughter stoked the fire once more and repositioned the blade she had been working on. Dark tendrils wove through the steel, now noticeable as the blade had cooled significantly. She gestured toward the workshop and smiled at Godric once more before returning to her craft.

" On second thought why don’t you keep the witicalistra . I don’t think it would last long in my small cabin." Godric hands the witicalistra to Xanth and heads toward the work shed.

Xanth barely looks up as Godric puts the wit down on top of the supply cabinet. She continues to bang away at the metal. Sensing a missed opportunity, Godric solemnly heads to the workshed. Hawk is looking over a vein of metal as Godric enters.

Godric reaches out to warmly shake hawks hand. " Ten-Frim sent me to get tips for these arrow shafts he made for me to try out." Godric reaches into his quiver to show Hawk one of the shafts. " I think Ten-frim has out done himself with these. Never have I seen this level of quality in an arrow shaft. I had hoped to work out a deal with Iskar for the tips. Maybe I could work a trade with you instead."

Hawk takes the shaft and sights down it’s length, feeling it’s weight. He has indeed outdone himself, this shaft is almost a work of art. He hands the shaft back and turns to pull a small basket off a shelf behind him. I finished the tips this morning [Hawk: Craft (weapon) = 17]. Hawk places the basket of tips on the workbench. What kind of trade did you have in mind?

Working out a trade, Godric takes the arrowheads and shafts and heads out of the Smithy. He had been taking up residence just outside of town in the lodge in the edge of the Border wood. He would return there to craft these shafts and heads into fine arrows to hunt with. He gathers everything together, waving once again at Xanthippe and returned down the dirt road to his home. Past the tower called the Old Armory and onto a wooded trail. He arrived at the lodge quickly, and once inside began to assemble the pieces together; excited to test them out. Maybe on some rabbits for that “good rabbit stew” Hawk requested.

Simril, the town Veterinarian and former hunter, had gone to an old fallen tree to begin carting large chunks back to the house. Even though they wouldn’t need it for a long while, with summer approaching, it was good to keep him busy and they would have their share of firewood to sell when winter did finally come. The tree was large enough to keep Simril occupied for a while, which was good because his hunting instincts left something to be desired these days. Godric would never tell the old man that though.

Godric easily tracks down a rabbit den. He sets up behind a fallen log, waiting for the rabbit to emerge. Patiently he waits, and then he sees a set of ears poke up out of the den. Moments later, a rabbit emerges, hopping around to forage for its dinner. Godric quietly raises his bow, notching one of ten-frim’s arrows, ready to fire.

Stealth Roll First (DC 8) If you make it then you may fire without alerting the rabbit. if you fail the stealth then you will need to roll initiative to see who goes first. The rabbit will have an 18 initiative so as long as you beat that you can go ahead and post your result as well. (If you hit it, i’m pretty sure you will kill it .. It has 2 HP)

The arrow works beautifully, everything was the same with Godric’s training, but the arrow seemed to get to the target faster and with great accuracy. He could almost hit the exact spot he was trying to hit with ease. Maybe it was a lucky shot, but the arrow seemed true to form. Perhaps another test. Godric studied his surroundings. A deer was grazing far off in the distance. Godric knew that was a shot he wouldn’t normally take from this distance .. but .. he wondered.

The arrow flies quick and smooth, soaring through the air with little resistance. Runes, etched in the side of the arrow begin to glow over the greater distance, giving strength and speed to the arrow as it travels. It strikes the deer with great force. The deer stumbles for a second, then falls to the ground. Godric won’t even have to chase this one.

Godric Gains 300 XP Bonus
Godric gains a quiver full of arrows. Since they are a new creation, Godric may come up with the name for these arrows.

These arrows act as normal arrows, however, when shot from increased range (60 feet or more), they give a +1 to hit, and +1 to damage and ignore melee penalties for firing into combat. When fired from within 60 feet, these arrows do not have enough time to invoke the magic woven into the shards and will not gain any bonus. Arrows may be recovered using the normal rules for arrow recovery.
