This is Part Two of Reign of Winter Adventure Path.

Use the time here before our next session to provide ideas on how you will continue further into winter’s territory across the bridge and onward to the portal. Remember you will deal with extreme cold and many winter type creatures as you progress. Sort through the inventory and assign items etc. Take a night at the lodge but no longer, for time is of the essence.

Jerr would ask Lady Argentia (politely) if she recognizes any of the odd items we got (rings, the gold bar, silver dagger, and other trinkets).

“Hrm .. this one is my personal family signet ring (The signet ring not the silver ring) . That’s great you found it. I assumed it was lost to the bandits. The gold bar is an official one. It definately bears the stamp of Taldor. It may have once belonged to us but consider it a reward for my rescue. That and any other jewelry you found. It can easily be replaced. There was a set of pearls I had that were of sentimental value, if you found them I would be glad to have them back and the ring, but otherwise, whatever you found should be your reward for such bravery. I am also going to write you and your friends a letter of commendation. Should you ever find yourselves in Zimar, we shall have a much more significant ceremony in your honor.”

Despite having some winter clothing Hawk would like to arrange with one of the divine casters for a daily endure elements if possible. He is not too keen on the colder climates.

How many people need Endure and how many castings do we have available? I could do 3, but I’d like to have 1 Cure Light Wounds just in case, so 2 would be better.

I see a total of 9+brother, is everyone with us at the lodge?

Remero, Jerr, Vendjavier, Edward, Oriann, Caelum, Godric, Scram, Brother, and Baldor.

We’re unlike to be able to cast endure elements on all of them. Jerr has decent saves, cold weather gear and cold resistance, he’s probably pretty well off. Scram has the cloak. We’ve got at least 5 potions of endure elements lying around according to the game tracker. Hawke and Caelum likely need the spell, who else? Jerr has at least 1 (domain) and can learn a second if needed. Like scram, I’d like to save the other spells for heals.

Godric has cold weather gear and a high survival. hopefully i’ll be alright. Plus he is young and brash and nothing can hurt him :-)

Heading out from the lodge in the morning, a surprise awaits our adventurers in the form of an icy bridge and high winds. Taking their time to cross, the party makes slow progress, careful not to fall into the icy waters below. Half way across, an ice devil named Izoze appears suddenly casting powerful magic. A beam of ice tries to encase Godric but he shatters it, returning fire. A couple winter wolf pups attack the group from the other side of the bridge. They bite and claw their way through Hawk, then Venjavier. Eventually, Godric’s mighty arrows and some fire blasts from Jerr manage to send the demon into the icy water below. Faced with the wolves, the team works to dispatch them and keep them from taking out more of their party. Already exhausted, and merely a hundred feet from the lodge, the team decides to head on. Things couldn’t get any worse.

Having casted several spells to endure the extreme cold, the group makes its way down the trail for miles without incident, eventually coming to an outcropping with evidence of a polar bear and a dead hunter. His journal identifies his adventures and warns of a set of bear traps and also a strange hut ahead. Finding some amazing ranger gear, Godric equips himself and heads off to scout ahead.

The area they approach is dominated by several columns of ice. Beyond them sits a small hut in a clearing. As Godric moves through the columns and investigates the hut, identifying bear traps along the way, Venjavier and Jerr begin seeing visions of an apparitition who speaks to them in different languages. The words and phrases the apparition uses are confusing and disjointed. The apparition is of a young girl of northern ancestry. She seems to warn them to run from the hut, but instead the team investigates.

Venjavier enters the hut brashly to investigate a mysterious doll sitting on a single rocking chair in the hut. As he does, the door slams shut behind him. After casting a light spell, Venjavier is shaken to disturb the doll has now dissappeared. Looking around, he does not see it but can hear a whisper in his ear telling him “I like you. Let’s be friends. I want to go home, will you take me there” Freaked, but un-moved, Venjavier actually agrees to this request. The doll floats down from the cealing and reaches out to be held. The wizard takes the doll in his hands, now with a strong compulsion to protect the doll and make it happy. Meanwhile, Venjavier’s friends try to break into the hut, which responds by rising up on chicken legs and attacking them. However, when the wizard agrees to help the spooky doll, the hut settles and the attacking ceases. The door opens to let them inside and disturbed, but confident, the party heads off in the hut making great time through the barren landscape.

Eventually the hut stops and settles. The team has had time to heal and lick their wounds and when the hut stops, the door opens, revealing a campsite near an icy portal. Several camps, filled with winter-touched creatures surround the path to the portal. Many of them stop to look at the hut as it arrives and the door opens.

I wouldn’t say “brashly” as much as “tentatively” or better yet, with an “Awww Crap! I can’t believe I’m gonna do this!” attitude.

During the trip Vendjavier takes the time to prepare his spells for the day. He feels more focused and realizes that he is able to clearly understand some of the spells he hasn’t been able to grasp in the past. As the doors to the hut open Vendjavier quietly says, “Uhh, gentlemen? I think this could get ugly,” as he casts mage armor on himself.

Chaos ensues outside the hut. having projected an image of Baba Yaga, the guardian doll has spooked a large contingency of soldiers who go running for the portal. Those who remain stand in formation, ready to fight what emerges. The party quickly dispatches the enemy, although trees begin to attack them from the woods and a giant dryad troll like creature leads them. Thinking they are overwhelmed for a time, a mysterious black rider emerges from the portal and begins to assist them, first dropping a great fire from the heavens and then entangling the troll creature in dark chains. This new friend is hurt however and slumps over in the saddle of his horse. With his last breath, he explains he is a harbinger of Baba Yaga and that she is missing, allowing her daughter, Elvanna to attempt a take-over of irissen and spread winter to all of Golarion. He bestows a mantle of the black rider to those willing to take the charge of freeing Baba yaga’s dancing hut and locating the famed witch.
